IMPORTANT TIPS
QUEUES
Understand the queues: The one you see in the photo is a queue for those who are going to buy to take away, inside there is room for 250 people and if there is a queue, it will be smaller than the one you will see on the street
WHAT TO SEE
Sit back and enjoy a pastry shop from 1838 that invented pastel de belém. It's a common pastry shop, you can order a hot mix (mixed toast), grilled bread (toast) like a regular bakery!

HISTORY
In 1836 a law was enacted that extinguished Religious Orders in Portugal
As a result, the monks were left without their former activity and could no longer make a living from the church. Many went hungry and the promise of government aid never arrived.
Therefore, in 1837, monks from the Jerónimos order decided to sell the sweets they usually made inside the monastery.
